Help us solve the COVID puzzle

Help us solve the COVID-19 puzzle

We’re moving towards our target

Since we launched our study in May, we have been overwhelmed with the response from you. Thousands of people have now volunteered to take part in the study and we are hugely thankful to everyone who has registered.

For us to be able to deliver meaningful scientific outcomes, it is absolutely crucial to our study that volunteers with mild symptoms who were not hospitalised with COVID-19 match closely in age and ethnicity to those who were severely affected and ended up in intensive care.

This means we are temporarily pausing registration to allow our researchers to individually assess everyone who has registered, and we will only be inviting those who closely match with our severely affected group to join the study.

We are extremely grateful to the thousands of people who have already registered their interest in helping us.

If you would like to register your interest, you can still do so here. Please bear in mind that due to the number of registrations our researchers are reviewing, it will not possible for us to contact you unless we are inviting you to take part. If we do ask you to take part, we will contact you by email with a form to collect additional information, which will allow us to enrol you in the study.

Thank you again for your interest and support. If you would like to keep up to date with the study you can sign up to our e-newsletter here. You can unsubscribe at any time using the ‘unsubscribe’ link in the emails we send.

Who is GenOMICC?

GenOMICC is a group of doctors and scientists who are working together to find out why people end up needing intensive care. Together, they use blood samples to sequence and analyse DNA for the NHS. The GenOMICC consortium is led by the University of Edinburgh and is working in partnership with Genomics England to analyse the whole genome sequences of people who were severely affected by COVID-19 and compare with those who only had it mildly.

Could you be a match?

We need to find up to 15,000 people who tested positive for COVID-19 and had mild or moderate COVID-19 symptoms to volunteer to take part in our study. This includes people who had a positive result but no symptoms at all.

Ideally, we need those people who were mildly affected to closely match the age and ethnicity of people who were severely affected.

Since so many of those with severe reactions were people from ethnic minority backgrounds or older people, we especially need volunteers from these groups.

Take part in the research

Although we have temporarily paused registration, if you had a positive test for COVID-19 and think you can help us with our study, then you can still register your interest in taking part.

  • Have you tested positive for COVID-19?
  • Are you over 18?
  • Do you live in the UK?
